Samsung is set to join the ranks of smartphone manufacturers adopting titanium frames with the upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra, according to a report by South Korean publication The Elec.

The move follows in the footsteps of Apple, which introduced titanium frames in its iPhone 15 Pro models earlier this year, and Xiaomi, which offered the Xiaomi 14 Pro in a Titanium Special Edition.

Titanium Frame Debut with Galaxy S24 Ultra

The Elec's report reveals that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be the first Samsung device to feature a titanium material frame.

The success of this introduction could potentially influence the adoption of titanium frames in other Samsung models.

Contrary to previous reports claiming that the entire Galaxy S24 series would come with a titanium frame, the latest development suggests that Samsung may limit titanium adoption to the S24 Ultra model only.

Manufacturing Goals and Considerations

In order to meet anticipated demand, Samsung has set a tentative goal to manufacture 15 million titanium frames. This figure matches the sales number achieved by the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

However, the decision to commercialise titanium frames was made only recently, despite Samsung's reported two-year-long research and development efforts.

The move from aluminum frames, which currently cost the company around $20, to titanium comes with challenges. The low yield rate of titanium adoption could significantly increase the device's price by four to five times.

Design and Processor Variants

Leaked renders of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra indicate a design that closely resembles its predecessor, with reduced screen bezels on the front.

The device is confirmed to be available in Snapdragon and Exynos processor variants, catering to different market preferences.
