According to some reports, Apple iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus can be launched again with will be released USB-C port. Since its introduction with the iPhone 5, the iPhone has consistently utilized the Lightning port. However, recent developments suggest a significant shift might be on the horizon.

Emerging reports and leaks hint that Apple is considering replacing this proprietary port with the USB Type-C for the forthcoming iPhone 15 series. Interestingly, this change might not be limited to the newest models. It appears that a selection of older iPhones might also undergo this transformation.

Incorporating USB-C Ports in Older iPhones

Not just the anticipated iPhone 15 series, but several previous iPhone models could also see a change in their charging ports. This revelation emerged from Aaron on X (previously known on Twitter), an Apple developer and author.

He stumbled upon this information when analyzing the tvOS 17 beta 5 code. Aaron detected two iPhone models absent from prior beta versions. Significantly, these models seem distinct from the four iPhone 15 references identified in earlier tvOS iterations.

The newly discovered models, iPhone14,1 and iPhone14,9, are believed to represent the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. However, the twist here is their integration with USB-C charging ports instead of the typical Lightning ones.

Why The Shift To USB-C For Older Models?

At present, it remains uncertain if Apple plans to remodel older iPhones and incorporate Type-C ports instead of the familiar Lightning ports. Yet, if these speculations prove accurate, the motivation behind such a move could be rooted in regulatory compliance. Specifically, Apple may be adjusting to the European Union regulations. These regulations, established by a law in 2020, mandate companies to equip their devices with Type-C ports if they wish to sell them within the EU.

Connecting the dots, the primary reason for the Cupertino giant to contemplate transitioning to USB-C ports, beginning with the iPhone 15 series, can likely be attributed to the EU’s strict rules and orders.
