Microsoft’s deal to acquire Activision-Blizzard has sent ripples throughout the gaming industry, and it is still unclear how much things will change. One of the biggest factors still unknown is the future of the Call of Duty franchise, one of the largest in gaming.
Now that Microsoft publishes Call of Duty, the question is whether the franchise will continue to be playable on competitor Sony’s PlayStation consoles. Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, has indicated that the shooter may continue to be available on Sony consoles.

Spencer said: “Had good calls this week with leaders at Sony. I confirmed our intent to honor all existing agreements upon acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and our desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. Sony is an important part of our industry, and we value our relationship.”
What exactly this means, however, still remains unclear. It could mean that future Call of Duty releases continue to be multi-platform. Or it could mean that the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone continues to be available on the PS4 and PS5, while new games are exclusive to Xbox and PC.
