Apple and Amazon must face an antitrust lawsuit alleging a conspiracy to inflate iPhone and iPad prices on Amazon. Filed by U.S. residents who bought these devices on Amazon in January 2019, the lawsuit claims both companies colluded to limit competing resellers on Amazon's marketplace for an Apple product discount. It is alleged there were around 600 third-party Apple resellers on Amazon in 2018. Apple denies the allegations, citing consumer protection from counterfeit products. The judge recognised the concerns, allowing the case to proceed to trial. The lawsuit seeks unspecified triple damages. With Apple's $94.8 billion and Amazon's $127.4 billion recent sales, it is a significant development in the antitrust scrutiny of tech giants. The outcome is uncertain but highlights consumers' willingness to challenge major tech companies' power.
