IDC reports that global shipments of personal computers fell by 29 percent in Q1 2023 due to weak demand, a deteriorating macroeconomic climate and excess inventory.

Apple's sales of its Mac computers saw the largest drop, down 40.5 percent YoY to $7.7 billion in Q1, with Dell Technologies witnessing a 31 percent drop. Lenovo Group, Asustek Computer and HP also experienced declines in shipments.

The pause in growth and demand is also giving the supply chain room to explore production options outside China.

Further concerns about economic slowdowns remain, with recovery predicted to be difficult should recession in key markets persist into 2024.
