Apple is reportedly planning to replace Qualcomm modem chips in iPhones with its own in-house chips starting from 2024. Apple is making this move in order to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm.

The company had initially planned to launch its own modem chips as early as 2023 but development delays have caused Apple to push its plans further down the line. In addition to replacing Qualcomm chips, Apple is working on replacing Broadcom wireless components with its own in-house components as well by the beginning of 2025. The company is currently signed on with Broadcom for wireless components and modules until mid of 2023.

Apple has been working on replacing Qualcomm and Broadcom hardware since its legal dispute with Qualcomm in 2017. The company purchased Intel's modem chip business in 2019 in an effort to accelerate its own chip development.
