Following the abandonment of its electric car project, Apple is now focusing on home robotics, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The company, in particular, could be developing a personal robot and a smart display.

The personal robot is envisioned to accompany users during video calls and assist with household chores, but it requires significant technological advancements.

The smart display aims to mimic human gestures during video calls, although concerns exist regarding its added cost and the weight of the robot components.

Competition in personal robotics

Other tech companies, such as Amazon with its Astro robot and Samsung with the Ballie robot, are also venturing into the realm of personal robotics.

Amazon's Astro robot is designed for home monitoring and comes with a price tag of around ₹2,00,000.

Samsung's Ballie robot serves as a smart home assistant with a built-in projector.

Reasons for abandoning electric car project

Complications with the autonomous driving capabilities, which led to a decrease in the level of autonomy from Level 4 to Level 2+, contributed to the reported discontinuation of Apple's electric car project.

Apple's unwavering commitment to high standards and its "all-or-nothing" ideology played a pivotal role in the closure of the project.

Challenges within the electric vehicle industry, such as high upfront costs, insufficient charging infrastructure, shorter range, and slower adoption compared to gasoline vehicles, also influenced the decision.
