OpenAI has been sued for defamation after its chatbot, ChatGPT, generated a false embezzlement complaint against radio host Mark Walters.

Walters, who is CEO of CCW Broadcast Media and hosts a radio show, played no part in the case.

The suit, filed in a Georgia state court, calls ChatGPT’s output malicious, and Waters is seeking financial damages, which will be determined at the time of trial.
