T20 World Cup : South Africa captain Temba Bavuma said he and his fellow players were "surprised" by Quinton de Kock's refusal to take a knee and his subsequent withdrawal from their T20 World Cup 2021 game vs the West Indies.

Bavuma said that not having de Kock was something he wasn't looking forward to but added the team respects his decision.

On the other hand, West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard, who also plays with de Kock for the Mumbai Indians had a contrary view. He said that they don't want anyone doing it for them in solitude, or to feel sorry for them. Once you are educated, you understand.

De Kock is expected to release a statement explaining his stance in the next few days.
