The Madras High Court has come down hard on political parties and the media after medical aspirants committed suicide due to Centre's refusal to postpone the National Eligibility Entrance Test. The High Court said that politicians and media need to stop glorifying these suicides. The bench said that if politicians stop giving compensation to the families then such suicides may reduce. The bench was hearing a petition asking the court to initiate suo moto contempt case against the Tamil Nadu govt for failing to prevent student suicides. In 2018, the Madras HC had ordered the state govt to take steps to prevent NEET-related suicides.
