It wasn't a start Sri Lanka would have expected.
The first game of the T20 World Cup 2022 proved to be an upset as Namibia stunned the Asian Champions by 55 runs in the 1st qualifying game for Group A.
Put into bat, Namibia didn't have the best of starts before Jan Frylinck and JJ Smit helped their side post a defendable 163/7. Chasing which, the Lankans found themselves 3 down with just 21 runs on the board. No batter looked promising as Sri Lanka was bowled out for a mere 108.
As a result, Namibia, who made it to Super 12 in the 2021 edition, not only pulled off a historic win but also dented Sri Lanka's chances of making it to the main draw with a big blow to their net run rate.
