Olympic Champion Neeraj Chopra ruled out of Commonwealth Games

In a big blow for India, Neeraj Chopra has been ruled out of the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Olympic Gold medallist & defending Commonwealth champion Neeraj Chopra, who was being touted as India’s strongest contender for a gold medal finish in the upcoming Birmingham games, will miss the marquee event which is set to begin on July 28th. 

The Olympic gold medallist has been ruled out of the  Commonwealth Games due to fitness concerns. Reports suggest that the 24-year-old Haryana-based athlete has sustained an injury to his right thigh. 

According to IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, "Neeraj Chopra will not take part at CWG as he got injured in the finals of the World Athletic Championships."

India’s star Javelin Thrower who is the defending Olympic, Commonwealth & Asian Champion, became the first Indian male to clinch a silver medal at the recently concluded World Athletics Championships.
