The show is not over!

Serena Williams on Tuesday rolled back the years as she breezed past Danka Kovinic of Montenegro 6-3, 6-3 to enter round 2 of US Open 2022. She will next take on Anett Kontaveit of Estonia.

On Opening Night in a sold-out, celebrity-filled Arthur Ashe Stadium, the 40-year-old American became only the fourth woman in the Open Era to win matches in her teens, 20s, 30s and 40s.

Serena entered her first-round match ranked as 605th in the world but went onto secure her record 107th victory.

She had recently announced that she is preparing to end her playing career and, while she did not explicitly say the U.S. Open would be her final event, she has indicated it will be.
