It was a historic victory for India’s Sumit Nagal, when he became the country’s first tennis player to win an ATP challenger event on a European clay court on Sunday in Rome.

25-year-old Nagal defeated Jesper de Jong, ranked 234th in the world, 6-3 6-2 in less than two hours to clinch the title.

Nagal, placed over 100 ranks below de Jong, overcame the Dutchman with ease to take home his 3rd ATP Challenger title and his first since the triumph in Buenos Aires in 2019.
