Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu reached the women's singles semi-final of the Singapore Open on Friday after beating China's Han Yue in three hard-fought games.
The Indian shuttler lost the first game to the Chinese opponent 17-21. But Sindhu bounced back in the second set and won 21-17 to force a decider. Sindhu was once trailing 9-14 in the final game but made a brilliant comeback to win it 21-19 to enter the last four.
World No. 7 Sindhu who is chasing her third BWF title this year will face Saena Kawakami of Japan in the semi-final on Saturday.
However, former world No. 1 Saina Nehwal's dream to win her first BWF title in three years ended, as she lost to Japan's Aya Ohori in the quarter-finals. Saina had defeated fifth seed He Bing Jiao of China in the round of 16 earlier.
In men's singles, HS Prannoy who stunned world No. 4, Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the second round couldn't make it to the semis after losing to Japan's Kodai Naraoka 21-12, 14-21, 18-21.
India's men's doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun also went down against world No. 2 Indonesian pair Mohammad Ahsan and Setiawan 21-10, 18-21 & 17-21.
