Star Indian hockey goalkeeper, PR Sreejesh, won the prestigious World Games Athlete of the Year award for his consistent show in 2021.

He became only the second Indian and first Indian man to receive the accolade. India women's captain Rani Rampal had won the prize in 2019. TheWorldGames.org conducted the voting and Sreejesh finished well clear at the top of the 24-strong nomination list. His total votes of 1,27,647 were almost twice as many as the second-placed athlete, Spain's Sport Climbing ace Albert Lopez, who garnered 67,428 votes.

Sreejesh was part of the Indian men's team that claimed a bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
