Indian Discuss thrower Kamlapreet Kaur has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for 3 years for using a prohibited substance called Stanozolol.

The athlete's ban will be effective from March 29, 2022 according to an Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) statement. She had been provisionally suspended for using the substance back in May this year.

The 26-year-old finished sixth at the Tokyo Olympics and is the only Indian woman to cross the 65-metre mark in Discus throw.

Kamalpreet's ban comes only days after javelin thrower Shivpal Singh was handed a four-year ban following a failed dope test that took place last year.

"On 28 March 2022, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory in Lausanne, Switzerland reported an Adverse Analytical Finding in the Sample for the presence of Stanozolol metabolites,” AIU said in their statement.
