Murali Sreeshankar, who made the nation proud with a historic silver at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2022, had a disappointing Diamond League debut in Monaco on August 10.

The long jumper ran behind the leader by quite some margin and ended at the 6th spot and failed to win a medal. Sreeshankar, who has the season best of 8.36m in the nationals, finished with a 7.94m leap, which was much below his best standards.

Cuba's Masso Maykel won gold with a mammoth effort of 8.35m, slightly below Sreeshankar’s best effort this season. At CWG 2022, Sreeshankar became the first Indian to win silver in men's long jump at the Games.
