After a successful Monday, India began day 3 of Asian Games 2023 on a disappointing note, with no medals coming the opening few hours.

FENCING

Star Indian fencer Bhavani Devi started strongly but her impressive run came to an end in the quarterfinal. She went down to World number 12 and reigning Asian Silver medallist Shao Yaqi 7-15.

Earlier, Bhavani had won 5 out of 5 matches in pool stage of the women's sabre individual event. A win in the quarterfinals would have earned India a maiden Asian Games medal. Semi-finalists are assured of at least a bronze medal in fencing.

SHOOTING

India's Divyansh Panwar and Ramita Jindal missed the 10m mixed air rifle bronze medal by the skin of the teeth as the country's shooters hit a bump on Tuesday after cruising for two consecutive days at the Asian Games.

South Korea won the bronze after an engrossing contest 20-18.

JUDO

India's Tulika Maan lost by Ippon to Tomita Wakaba in the women’s +78kg quarterfinals. However, she won her repechage round against Chinese Taipei’s Jia Wen Tsai and progressed to the bronze medal bout.

In the men's 100kg category, India's Avtar Singh did not turn up for his last-eight bout against UAE’s Dzhafar Kostoev.
