2-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar to face trial for murder of Sagar Dhankar

India's fallen hero, Sushil Kumar, is all set to undergo trial for the murder of wrester Sagar Dhankar.

Sushil, a 2-time Olympic Champion, along with 17 others has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code that include murder, attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, and criminal conspiracy.

Sushil Kumar, who was arrested in May 2021, is currently lodged inside the capital city's Tihar Jail. He was nabbed by the Delhi Police from Delhi's Mundka area, having been on the run for over a fortnight.

The Olympic silver & bronze medal winner was on the run after he was wanted for conspiring against a junior wrestler, Sagar Dhankar, who lost his life after a brawl at Delhi's Chhatrasal Stadium, a brawl allegedly perpetrated by Sushil and his associates.

A video of the incident also went viral, where Sushil Kumar was captured assaulting the 23-year-old Dhankar, his friend Sonu and several others over a property dispute. Dhankar later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
