Mumbai Indians beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in the IPL on Monday.
SRH had made 173 for eight thanks to opener Travis Head's 48 off 30 balls and Pat Cummins' rearguard 35 not out off 17 balls.
Suryakumar Kumar made a sensational 102 not out off 51 balls to set up Mumbai's big win in 17.2 overs.
The win lifted Mumbai Indians from the bottom of the points table to the ninth spot while SRH, despite the loss, remained fourth with 12 points in 11 games.
Hailing Suryakumar Yadav's performance in the match, MI batting coach Kieron Pollard underlined how Suryakumar Yadav kept his nerve and discipline to play a dazzling innings.
“He played the situation just about perfectly when he went in. It was a tricky situation where the ball was nipping around and moving around a bit. He got beaten a few times but held his nerve, and that's the sort of discipline we ask for", Pollard said during the post-match press conference.
“Then he got into his work about manoeuvring the field, placing the gaps, and counter-attacking. But it's no surprise for us, that's how he practices and plays. And when he scores, and he scores big, you often come out on the winning side", Pollard added.
