Lucknow Super Giants have become the second team after Gujarat Titans to register a place in IPL 2022 playoffs after the KL Rahul-led side edged out Kolkata Knight Riders by a mere 2 runs in a last-ball thriller on Wednesday night (May 18). Lucknow are currently placed second on the IPL 2022 points table and they will keep the second spot if Rajasthan Royals, placed at the third spot on IPL 2022 leaderboard, lost their match against Chennai Super Kings on Friday (May 20) or win the match by just a small margin.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are at the 4th spot with one match in hand and a better net run rate than Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are placed at fifth. The fate of RCB will be decided on May 19, when they lock horns with Gujarat Titans in their last round-robin match. If they manage to win their last fixture then they will close the doors for Sunrisers Hyderabad, placed at 8th spot, and Punjab Kings, placed at 7th spot, for playoffs given the two sides are hoping to make it to the last four at 14 points. Delhi have to play Mumbai Indians in their last league match and a win could earn them a playoff spot with 16 points.

Moreover, Jos Buttler continues to be the leading run-scorer in IPL 2022 with 627 runs in 13 games and currently holding the orange cap. Yuzvendra Chahal has regained the purple cap from Wanindu Hasaranga after he got a wicket in the match against Lucknow Super Giants. Chahal now has 24 wickets in 13 games.
