MS Dhoni dropped a major bombshell just ahead of the start of IPL 2022 as he stepped down from the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings on Thursday.

Dhoni has passed the baton to India's prolific all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who will lead CSK from IPL 2022 onwards.

Jadeja has been an integral part of CSK since 2012 barring the two seasons when the Chennai-based franchise was suspended.

Dhoni is one of the most-prolific captains in the Indian Premier League and led the yellow brigade in 204 matches. He won 129 games as CSK captain while losing 82 with one match ending without a result. Under Dhoni's captaincy, Chennai Super Kings won 4 IPL titles and were runner-ups 5 times.

Dhoni was the only player in IPL to captain a team since its inception. He took Chennai's captaincy in 2008 and led the side barring two years when the team was suspended.
