In a significant shift on the IPL 2024 points table, the Delhi Capitals, who began the day at the bottom, ascended a rank following an impressive 6-wicket victory over the Lucknow Super Giants. This win not only elevated their position but also allowed them to surpass the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Kuldeep Yadav, returning to action after a three-match hiatus due to a groin injury, was instrumental in Delhi's success. He claimed impressive figures of 3/20, demonstrating his pivotal role in the team's bowling lineup. Despite his efforts, LSG managed to set a challenging total of 167, thanks largely to Ayush Badoni, who played a crucial innings of 55 not out from 35 balls. Badoni's performance rescued LSG from a precarious 94/7, setting the stage for a competitive match.

However, the Delhi Capitals broke new ground by becoming the first team to successfully chase a total over 160 against the Lucknow Super Giants, a team previously undefeated when defending scores above this mark. The chase was dominated by James Fraser-McGurk and Rishabh Pant, who combined for a 77-run stand to steer their team to a comfortable win with six wickets in hand.

The repercussions of this match were felt on the IPL points table, with Lucknow Super Giants slipping down to fourth place. Their net run rate (NRR) also took a hit, falling below that of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) due to the defeat at Ekana.

At the pinnacle of the points table, the Rajasthan Royals continue to lead, being the only team with eight points so far. They are set to face the Punjab Kings, who are currently eighth on the table, in the upcoming Saturday evening match. Punjab Kings are looking to turn their fortunes around, having secured only two wins from their first five matches.
