With 9 wickets in just 3 matches, Lucknow Super Giants’ Mark Wood is currently joint second on the list of wicket-takers in IPL 2023.

While Yuzvendra Chahal currently leads the battle for the Purple cap, Wood is tied with Gujarat Titans’ Rashid Khan with 9 scalps each.

Arshdeep Singh & Alzarri Joseph are next on the list with 7 wickets apiece.

The only difference is that while Mark Wood has played just 3 games, the others have played 4.

Wood, in fact, had only played one IPL game before this season, all the way back in 2018. And yet, the Englishman is proving to be a very difficult prospect for the opposition batters in 2023.

Even in the game against RCB, when others were being carted around the park, Wood was the only bowler with a maiden to his name. And despite bowling the difficult overs, he only gave away 32 runs in RCB’s score of 212.

While Chahal is currently favourite to win his second consecutive Purple cap, be rest assured, a fit & available Mark Wood may just pip the leggie to take home the honours come the end of the season.
