Umesh Yadav continued his brilliant performance in his second match of the IPL 2022 against Punjab Kings. He registered his career-best figures of 4 for 23 that helped Kolkata Knight Riders to dismiss Punjab Kings for 137 in 18.2 overs.

After nearly going unsold at the mega auction, Umesh's performance in this match was spectacular. The right-arm fast bowler won the 'Player of the Match' award. With this achievement, he surpassed the likes of Rohit Sharma, Chris Gayle, and Yusuf Pathan. Umesh now has 6 player of the match awards against Punjab Kings which is the highest by any player against a team. Yusuf Pathan, Chris Gayle, and Rohit Sharma previously held the record with 5 player of the match awards each.

Umesh had warmed the benches the previous IPL season and had played just 2 games in IPL 2020. This year, Umesh has been bowling with incredible control, and 2/20, 2/16, and 4/23 are Umesh Yadav's figures in IPL 2022. With 8 wickets from 3 matches, Umesh is eyeing the purple cap.
