Delhi Capitals suffered a major heartbreak in their last league game of IPL 2022 as Mumbai Indians defeated Rishabh Pant-led side by 5 wickets at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. After Delhi's defeat, Royal Challengers qualified for the playoffs as the 4th team.
Chasing a 160-run target on a tricky pitch, Mumbai were off to a slow start as they managed to score only 27 runs in the powerplay. Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis then stitched a 51-run stand. Delhi dominated the majority of the game after that but poor captaincy from Pant allowed Mumbai to bounce back. Tim David took the game away from DC with 34 runs off 11 balls as Mumbai chased down the target with 5 balls to spare.
Earlier, Delhi were off to a horrid start as Jasprit Bumrah picked two wickets upfront. At 50-4, Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell came together and stitched a well-crafted 75-run stand for the 5th wicket and took Delhi out of shambles. Powell went on to score 43 runs off 34 deliveries while Pant hit 33-ball 39. Bumrah took three wickets as Delhi posted 159-7 in 20 overs.
