A fabulous show by Shubman Gill, along with a superb bowling performance saw Gujarat Titans become the first team to qualify for the playoffs this season.

Having set SRH a target of 189, Hardik Pandya’s men got to work right from the word go, with Mohd Shami taking the first of his 4 wickets in the very first over.

It was a procession as wickets fell one after the other. By the 9th over, the visitors had slumped to 59/7.

Even as Heinrich Klaasen, SRH’s hero from their clash versus RR, stood his ground with a fighting 64 off 44, the visitors were always way behind the eight ball and could only muster 154/9.

Both Shami & Mohit Sharma finished with 4 wickets apiece as Hyderabad succumbed to a 34-run defeat.

Much of GT’s success on Monday evening can be owed to Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan as the pair stitched up a 147-run partnership for the second wicket to post a massive total of 188.

Gill completed a marvellous IPL century in 56 deliveries, his first in IPL history. Sai Sudharshan, meanwhile, fell short of his half-century by 3 runs.

Towards the end of Gujarat’s innings, SRH bowlers attempted to restore order after Gill and Sudharshan wreaked havoc, with veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking a 5-wicket haul, including 3 in the final over.

But it was all in vain as the Sunrisers batters disappointed yet again.
