In a massive blow to 5-time champions Australia, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis' participation against India in their opening ODI World Cup 2023 match is uncertain.

Stoinis had picked up a hamstring injury during the recently concluded ODI series against the Men in Blue.

On October 5th, Fox Sports quoted the Australian coach Andrew McDonald as saying, 'He certainly hasn’t been ruled out of that, but we weren’t prepared to risk him in those practice games.'

Stoinis has missed 4 white-ball games so far.

McDonald added, 'We‘ve got the main session today (Oct 5) and then another hit out tomorrow (Oct 6), so he’ll go through his work there and we’ll see whether he’s available for selection for game one. These next couple of days (are) really important for him to press for selection for game one, and we‘ll see how that unfolds.'

Stoinis is the second key Aussie player to be nursing an injury after Travis Head even before the commencement of their World Cup campaign.
