An ODI World Cup return for Ravichandran Ashwin after a monumental gap of 3,118 days. The Indian off-spinner has been included in the playing XI for the match against Australia at his home Chennai.

Coincidentally, Ashwin, before this game, played his last World Cup match against Australia as well. It was more than 8 years ago on March 26, 2015 -  the World Cup semifinal at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Ashwin was the most economical bowler for India that day even as all the others had an off day. India chasing a target of 329, lost that match by 95 runs.

Fast forward to 2023, and Ashwin will be hoping for a very different outcome this time around in conditions that are expected to aid his style of bowling.
