The French defender received his marching orders in the eighth minute, and 5 minutes later, Lars Stindl opened the scoring for the hosts.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting equalised for Bayern before the break but Daniel Farke's side, who had won just one of their past five league games, reasserted themselves in the second half with goals from Jonas Hofmann and Marcus Thuram.
Mathys Tel's late strike for Bayern was scant consolation.
Bayern are in danger of being knocked down to second place if Union Berlin beat Schalke on Sunday, while Borussia Dortmund will have the chance to move level on points with Julian when they host Hertha Berlin.
