After a below-par two-year stint at Chelsea, German striker Timo Werner has returned to German club RB Leipzig.

RB Leipzig re-signed Werner for £25 million on a permanent deal, which will end in 2026.

The 26-year-old is returning to the club where it all started for him. In his first four-year stint at the German club, Werner netted 95 goals in 159 matches. But he failed to replicate that scoring rate at Chelsea. He scored just 10 goals in two years at Stamford Bridge.

However, he played a significant role in Chelsea's Champions League victory in 2021, when he netted a goal in the semi-final against Real Madrid.

In 2020, Chelsea had paid £54 million for the German striker.
