Thibaut Courtois left Belgium's training camp on Monday ahead of a qualifying match for next year's European championships.

The departure came amid reports in local media that the Real Madrid goalkeeper was frustrated not to be handed the captain's armband in the previous game.

The Belgian federation confirmed that Courtois had left the camp and would miss Tuesday's match in Estonia, but did not give a reason for his departure.

After Belgium coach Tedesco revealed Courtois' conversation with him in his press conference, the goalkeeper took to his Instagram to express his disappointment.

"This afternoon I was surprised to hear the coach’s press conference. I want to make it clear that it is not the first time or the last time that I talk to a coach about issues related to a locker room, but it is the first time that someone decides to tell it publicly. I am deeply disappointed with this, but I want to make it clear that the coach’s assessments do not fit with reality," wrote the Real Madrid goalie on Instagram.

Tedesco gave the leadership duties to Romelu Lukaku in the absence of injured Kevin de Bruyne.
