Defending Champions Real Madrid's perfect La Liga record this season came to an end with a defeat at Rayo Vallecano on Monday night.

Carlo Ancelotti's men had a 'poor night' as they were beaten 3-2, a defeat that cost them their unbeaten streak and the La Liga lead to Barcelona.

A Luka Modric penalty & an Eder Militao header in fact gave Madrid a 2-1 lead before Rayo equalized through Álvaro García just before the halfway mark.

Vallecano then took the lead through a penalty kick by Óscar Trejo in the 67th minute after VAR revealed a handball by Dani Carvajal inside the box.

This was Madrid's second defeat of the season in all competitions, having lost to RB Leipzig in the group stage of the Champions League last month.

Their loss also cost them the La Liga lead, with Barcelona now 2 points ahead of the reigning champions after 13 matches.
