French footballer Raphael Varane announced his retirement from international football on Thursday after what has been an illustrious career for the 29-year-old.

His international career started almost a decade ago when he was a teenager and got to play a part in France's 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Varane then went on to establish himself as a regular starter for both Real Madrid and the French national team.

Varane played 93 matches for France and featured in 4 major tournaments during his international career winning the elusive FIFA World Cup in 2018 as well. Varane became only the fourth player to be a World Cup champion and Champions League winner in the same year.
