Defending champions Manchester City strted their title defence with a convincing 3-0 win against newly promoted Burnley at Turf Moor on August 11

Last season's Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland wasted no time to get his season started with the Norwegian striker breaking the deadlock within the first 5 minutes.

Haaland went on to add another one in the 36th minute with a brilliant top corner finish from inside the box.

The first half however, saw Kevin de Bruyne walk off the pitch in some discomfort in what was a disappointing return to side for the Belgian after an injury.

City got their third in the second half courtesy of Rodri after a scramble in the box gave him a clear shot at goal.

Things got worse for newly promoted side Burnley as Anass Zaroury got sent off late in the game after a dangerous tackle on Kyle Walker.
