In a search for their sixth consecutive win in the league, Arsenal made a brilliant start at Emirates Stadium and largely dominated the first half but failed to take the lead.
Liverpool looked a better side in the second half and Diogo Jota put his team ahead in the 54th minute.
Eight minutes later, Jurgen Klopp's side doubled the lead when Roberto Firmino scored from close range after Arsenal failed to clear the ball from their own box twice.
After the win, Liverpool are just one point behind table-toppers Manchester City. Meanwhile, Arsenal remained at 4th with 51 points in 27 matches.
