France and Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante was ruled out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, having undergone an operation on his hamstring.

The 31-year-old suffered the injury during Chelsea's 2-2 draw against Tottenham in the Premier League at the Stamford Bridge on August 14.

In a statement, the club said that the procedure was a success, but Kante is expected to be sidelined for four months.

It added that the decision to operate to repair the damage was "mutual".

Kante won the 2018 World Cup with France, and 'Les Bleus' will look to defend their title when the 2022 tournament gets underway from November 20.
