The Writing was on the wall and it happened. Liverpool's League Cup fixture at Arsenal on Thursday has been postponed due to a Covid outbreak at the club.

On Tuesday Liverpool cancelled training and submitted a request to postpone the game due to a high number of positive tests amongst management and playing staff. The club's training centre was then temporarily closed on Wednesday after more positive Covid tests at the club, including assistant manager Pep Lijnders. He took charge for the 2-2 draw at Chelsea on Sunday with manager Jurgen Klopp isolating.

The League Cup game at Arsenal is now scheduled to be played at the Emirates on 20 January.
