Mention Cameroon, and memories of a certain Roger Milla celebrating his goal with a hip-swaying dance will come flooding back.

That was at Italia 90, when the Indomitable Lions thrilled and awed the world with a 1-0 upset win over champions Argentina on opening day and ventured deep into the quarter-finals stage.

Since then, they have gone on to make five more finals appearances and failed to advance beyond the group stage in all of them.

This time round, Cameroon is banking on Rigobert Song to break the jinx.

Also the country's most capped player with four World Cup tournaments under his belt, Song was appointed manager in February after the African Cup of Nations finals.

Despite not having a gleaming managerial CV, the 46-year-old passed his first test when Cameroon prevailed against Algeria over a two-legged playoff to qualify for Qatar.

Cameroon are up against Switzerland in their Group G opener on November 24. They then take on Serbia four days later in a potential do-or-die match before wrapping up against Brazil on December 2.

Song will be delighted to have a frontline that is arguably Africa's best at his disposal.

Vincent Aboubakar is the alpha male, a position he consolidated after finishing as the AFCON top scorer with eight goals.

Also the team captain, he will be aiming to add on to the 33-goal haul he has for Cameroon, which sees him trailing just Milla and Samuel Eto'o in the all-time scoring list.

In midfield, Zambo Anguissa is a tenacious box-to-box competitor and has attracted headlines this season with his displays for Napoli.

He will be Cameroon's focal point in launching attacks and breaking up threats.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana is back after serving a nine-month ban for testing positive for a banned substance and hopes a good tournament showing will banish the demons. The Inter Milan custodian will not have Joel Matip protecting him though after the Liverpool defender's attempt to join the team for Qatar was blocked by Samuel Eto'o.
