FA Cup: Middlesbrough stun Manchester United with 8-7 win on penalties

Middlesbrough knocked 12-time winner Manchester United out of FA Cup fourth round by defeating the Ralf Rangnick's side 8-7 on penalties on Friday night.

On a dramatic night at the Old Trafford, Manchester United have themselves to blame over the surprise exit given Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty in the 20th minute.

Jadon Sancho, then, rose to the occasion and five minutes later gave the Red Devils 1-0 lead.

United created many opportunities to extend their lead as they went into half-time 1-0..

Middlesbrough made a spirited comeback in the second half as Matt Crooks scored the equaliser in the 64th minute.

Both the teams failed to break the deadlock and the game went into extra time which also saw no goals.

The Red Devils then succumbed under pressure as their youngster Anthony Elanga's kick went over the post to send the 9,000 travelling fans wild. United knocked out out as Middlesbrough entered the 5th round.
