Christophe Galtier took over as Paris Saint-Germain’s seventh head coach in 11 years under the club’s Qatari-backed ownership after Mauricio Pochettino was fired on Tuesday.

Galtier led Lille to the French title in 2021 and joined Nice last season, finishing fifth but knocking PSG out of the French Cup. The 55-year-old has been handed a two-year contract.

Pochettino had one year left on his contract and is the fourth successive coach to be fired by PSG. Thomas Tuchel, Unai Emery and Laurent Blanc have also been sacked since 2016.

Pochettino won the French league but his status was damaged by a UEFA Champions League last-16 exit at the hands of Real Madrid, when PSG surrendered a 2-0 aggregate lead.
