India beat Cambodia 2-0 at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata to start their AFC Asian Cup qualifiers campaign with a win.

India captain Sunil Chhetri scored twice in the game. Chhetri opened the scoring in the 14th minute and found his second goal in the 59th minute of the game. Cambodia failed to find the back of the net as India registered a comfortable 2-0 victory.

The 37-year old Indian skipper overtook UAE's Ali Mabkhout after scoring his first goal of the match as it was his career's 81st international goal. Chhetri is now the third-highest active goalscorer (82 goals) in the world behind Cristiano Ronaldo (117 goals) and Lionel Messi (86 goals).

India is now placed on top of Group D after the opening round of fixtures and will play their next group match on Saturday against Afghanistan.
