Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa. The decision comes after it was revealed that the young opening batter will not be able to recover in time from a finger injury he sustained earlier.

According to Cricbuzz, internal sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that 26-year-old Gaikwad sustained a finger injury during the second One Day International (ODI) against South Africa in Port Elizabeth on December 19. This injury has led to his release from the ongoing Indian team's campaign in South Africa.

The BCCI, before the commencement of the third ODI, had released a statement indicating Gaikwad's injury status. It read, "(He) hasn't fully recovered from the blow he sustained to his ring finger while fielding in the second ODI. He remains under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team."

As the situation evolved, it became clear that Gaikwad would not be able to recuperate in time for the Test matches. Consequently, after discussions with the BCCI, the team management in South Africa decided to release him from the squad. Gaikwad is anticipated to return to India by Saturday.
