While Rishabh Pant’s comeback seemed doubtful after his horrific car crash last year, talks of him securing a spot in India’s 2024 World Cup squad have restarted. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar backed the 26-year-old, who is slated to return in IPL 2024.
Speaking to Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “If he plays the whole IPL without any injury setback, then he walks into the team. Whether he scores one run or no runs at all in the IPL. I think he is a game-changer. He would be one of the first couple of picks if I was a selector.
”Delhi Capitals director of cricket Sourav Ganguly confirmed this month that Pant will be back for the 2024 IPL season. He has also been assigned the role of the franchise’s captain.
Pant had a close shave after his car hit a divider and caught fire in a terrifying accident in December last year. Having suffered multiple injuries, Pant was back on his feet after 40 days.
