Just days before the Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan attained the top spot in the men's ODI ranking after whitewashing Afghanistan in the 3-match series held in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan who had already won the previous 2 games, thumped Afghanistan in the last game of the series as well as they registered a 59-run win. The Men in Green who won the toss posted a 268/8 in 50 overs courtesy of a 79-ball 67 by Mohd Rizwan and 60 off 86 innings by skipper Babar Azam.

The Pakistan pacers once again wreaked havoc as they bundled out the team for 209 in 48.4 overs. While Shaheen Shah Afridi and Faheem Ashraf got 2 each, Shadab Khan picked 3. Mujeeb ur Rahman was the highest score for Afghanistan with an electrifying 37 ball 64 as he also raced to a new Afghan record for the fastest 50 in just 26 balls. Rashid Khan who made a 27-ball 50 last year against Ireland was the previous holder of the record.
