Shubman Gill went down cheaply against England on day 2 of the 1st Test giving rise to speculations and questions regarding his spot on the team.

Gill was dismissed for 23 runs off 66 balls, another low blow in the batter's Test career. In his last ten Test innings, he has a high score of 36.

Coming to his defense was in-form senior KL Rahul, 'When it comes to Shubman, I think he walked in yesterday in a situation where he had to defend his way to the end of the day's play. Sometimes when you get into a mindset like that, you might find it hard to break free. And I could sense even today that he wanted one shot just to break the shackles and just to make him feel good.'

Rahul went on to add, 'Like I said, he will get better. He is a top class cricketer. He does play spin really, really well. We've seen that in whiteball cricket. It's about time that, he learnt from it.'

The 31-year-old sounded assured of his teammate bouncing back stating that the slump is something that happens to all batters and he was convinced Gill was already thinking about what he will do in his next appearance.
