Jasprit Bumrah will soon fly out to New Zealand to undergo surgery on his back which has kept the pacer out of action since September 2022.

Interestingly, the same procedure had helped extend the career of former New Zealand spearhead Shane Bond. Since he is also the bowling coach of Mumbai Indians, Bond may have played a part in this decision.

Post-surgery, Bumrah will undergo rehabilitation for about 6 months, effectively ruling him out until September.

The 29-year-old already missed the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup last year, and the BCCI is looking to get Bumrah fir for the 2023 ODI World Cup which kicks off in October.
