Wriddhiman Saha has opted out of Bengal's Ranji team after team management had reportedly told him that he will not be picked for the upcoming 2 match Test series against Sri Lanka which is to be held at the end of February.

'Wriddhiman has been categorically told by influential people in the team management that they move on and create some new back-ups alongside Rishabh Pant', a BCCI source in the know told PTI.

With Rishabh Pant securing his place as the top choice for wicket-keeping and KS Bharat who performed well in the Kanpur Test against New Zealand being available, Saha's chances to regain the spot in the Indian team is bleak.

Saha, who is in his late 30s had informed the Bengal Cricket Association that he will be unavailable for selection for Ranji Trophy. He did not attend Bengal's pre-season camp as well.

Saha whose age and form are playing against him has only scored 1353 runs at an average below 30 in 40 Tests that he has played.
