The murmurs were true as Shikhar Dhawan replaced Mayank Agarwal as the captain of Punjab Kings, the IPL franchise announced on Wednesday night.

Agarwal was handed the captaincy duties ahead of IPL 2022 but Punjab Kings had a forgettable run under him. They failed to make it to the playoffs and managed to win 7 of their 14 games and finished at the 6th spot.

Mayank himself failed to impress with the bat as he scored 196 runs at an average of 16.33. On the other hand, Dhawan, was bought for ₹8.25 crore in the mega auction, smashed 460 runs at an average of over 38.

Moreover, the 36-year-old is an experienced campaigner and is part of the IPL since its inception in 2008.
